OUR  STAFF

As part of the Marist and Josephite network, we combine timeless Marist and Josephite values with exciting innovations in learning for the 21st Century. Our dedicated teachers are committed to preparing this generation of ākona - learners for the future.

Many parents, visitors and past students comment on the welcoming, caring and inclusive nature of our St Marcellin community.

While students leave our School with a quality Catholic Education, we are just as proud that our students graduate with a broad range of life skills, strong friendships and positive values gained through the many experiences they encounter at our School.

We expect the best of and for our students and support them through the many challenges they may face in their early years.

Our intention is that our students learn, grow, laugh, persist, support each other and work hard to achieve their personal best – all within our safe St Marcellin family environment.

Faith formation and social justice programs are grounded in Marist Charism – our aim is to make Jesus known and loved to all our students and their families.

I invite you to visit the school to experience first-hand what’s on offer to your family and look forward to meeting you personally.

LEADERSHIP

Belinda Backwell

Principal/Tumuaki/DRS/SENCO/ESOL:

principal@stmarcellin.school.nz

Originally from Whanganui, I have strong ties to the community. I was educated at St. Anthony’s, St. Marcellin Primary and Sacred Heart College.

I am an experienced and well-qualified educator who holds appropriate degrees and professional teaching qualifications. I have experience in educational management and leadership and am passionate about fostering inclusivity within the school community, encompassing what we think and what we feel which, in turn, shapes our actions in everyday life.

My South African teaching experience, combined with my teaching experience in New Zealand, provides me with a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting learners emotionally, cognitively, and academically; providing students with both academic and social emotional support leads to positive changes in their self-esteem, motivation and effort.

I believe in the education of students holistically. I am passionate about fostering positive and supportive relationships with all staff, students and parents and continuing to ensure the best academic instruction is delivered.

Working collaboratively with all key stakeholders to ensure the optimum learning for the students and the efficient management of the school and plan and implement for the future is a top priority.
